What are your temperatures like? Even if you are keeping him warm- the reduced photo periods of winter could be slowing him down.
I've noticed a reduced "Plop! Plop!" of my geckos as they flop around at night during the winter time.
You can't sex young geckos just by looking at them.
What you'll want to do is get a jeweler's loupe, place the gecko on a piece of glass or clear plastic (like in a deli cup container) and look above the vent of the gecko for pores.
