The answer to my own question: about one week. I ended up putting a tiny container of gecko food below were he sits. today he ate crickets, so it took him about two weeks to feel at home enough to hunt.

I bought a lined day gecko on Saturday and as of today I haven't seen any proof that he has eaten anything. I've offered repashy gecko diet, small waxworms and crickets. How long does a day gecko take to settle in? Shouldi place dabs of food around the tank?
