If you are planning on getting one, I urge you to look into buying a captive-bred animal. Most newts sold in pet-shops are wild-caught, and suffer majorly because of this. I looked quite a bit into finding one, but couldn't, and so stuck with the store newts. Look into Kijiji or do a Google search.

I house both in a 20 gallon tank with the water filled a little over two thirds of the way up the tank. They have quite a longevity, and are pretty amusing animals.

They're doing well! I have a pretty gravid-looking one, and then a decent-sized second one. I feed them frozen glassworms and bloodworms and will eventually get them adjusted to Reptomin pellets.
