Hi there :) I'm interested in getting a snake (I've kept various othe reptiles in the past so I know I can handle it) and I'm debating whether or not a ball python is a good choice. I'm lookin for a relatively cheap (40-60), modest sized (3-4ft) snake. I know tht a ball would fit the bill, but having neve kept one I must ask... Do they make good beginner pets? I was torn between one of them or a smaller carpet python. Any thoughts? Thanks

The smallest carpet pythons will get bigger than you're looking for. A ball python may still get bigger than 4 ft, more likely if female. As long as the proper research is done, they can be kept without much trouble, excerpt some people call them pet rocks that poop! If you're looking for more of an active snake, I'd go with a colubrid, maybe a corn snake.
