So I have 5 tubs along the bottom of my rack system that I do not use because it seems to lose heat on that level. Ironically the 90 degree temps that breeding dubia prefer is about where those bins stay. I know it isn't a long term solution but until I get the large bins prepared and set up is there any reason I can't put a group of 12 (1 male, 11 females) into each of those bins to get started?

As long as you're not worried about them climbing out I don't see a reason why you can't use those tubs for roaches. I believe Sasobek has a video of his roaches kept in empty racks. If escape is a worry you can put a line of Vaseline around the rim of the bins as the roaches will have a very hard time getting over that. Just be forewarned that the Vaseline is not easy to get off if you ever want to use those bins for anything else in the future! haha
