From the picture it looks like a young male because of the clogged pores above the vent but it could be a female that had a difficult shed. I recommend soaking your gecko in warm shallow water to get rid of the old shed. You can use a Q-tip to gently wipe the pores above the vent to clean them. Youtube should have good tutorials for that. Then if you don't mind you could send another picture.
Also, judging by your geckos hands it looks like he/she has lost most of thier fingertips while with their previous owners. Please be sure to keep the humidity up during shedding and remove any skin on the toes that was not shed properly so you can prevent the loss of anymore toes. You can use the Q-tip method and warm soak to do this.
