Deodorizing wood

Hi!

I brought home a leopard gecko today from some folks who no longer wanted her. I am going to toss most of the decorations she came with after she settles in a bit and de-stresses, but she has one really nice piece of wood (maybe mopani). I’d like to save the one large piece of wood, but the whole tank has an odor. It doesn’t smell fecal; I think maybe the people I got her from were smokers?

any tips on deodorizing wood? Or just chuck it and buy new?

Thank you!

Take it out of the enclosure, spray it with hydrogen peroxide, let it air dry outside. If it still smells, consider baking it in the oven for awhile.
