Feeding Rodents to Dragons?

I've read contradicting information on the subject. Some people say adults should eat rodents, some say only occasionally, and others say never.

I have a 7 year old, big male. I also have a baby ball python. Well, my ball didn't want to eat her f/t rat pup, and instead of wasting it - I offered it to my dragon.
He showed behaviours I have never seen before. He grabbed the rat, and wagged his tail back and forth like a dog. Then he head bobbed with the rat in his mouth, and puffed out his beard for 20 minutes before he chewed and ate it.

Should I ever offer him this kind of thing again?

G'day,

rodents should never be fed to Agamids though there is the exception, A female thats lost allot of condition from breeding would benefit from a pinky to help beef her up otherwise, never. Also, as a 7 yr old he should be eating very little protein, make sure to give him plenty of veg/salad though. Dust with calcium 3 times a week and Multi vitamins and minerals once weekly.

Cheers-
