Heat lamp/mat

Do we still need a heat lamp/ mat for our girl?
We recently got a leopard gecko and we live in Florida. Our apt does not have central air and the air conditioner is in a separate room and is off during the majority of the day.
Our thermometer says her enclosure is within the good temperature range as is, and when we turn on the heat lamp, it starts to show her enclosure is getting too hot.
Does she still need the heat lamp/ mat or is she fine living in the hot apt as is?

I find that heat lamps dry out the air and it gets way too hot. In the summer in FL without air conditioning I guess a heat mat wouldn't be required, but it's also fine to leave the mat turned on and give the gecko the option to spend more time on the cool side of the cage.
