Heating pads

Anyone have any recommendations on how to avoid fire or burning the wooden stand my aquarium is sitting on? Currently, we have our reptile heater on the side but I'd prefer it to be on the bottom. I am just worried about the mat touching the wooden stand the aquarium sits on.

You saw Rachel's response about elevating the tank a bit. I actually use plastic or wooden dominos which elevate the bottom of the enclosure about 1/4". Many of my enclosures are on wooden stands and there have been no problems for the last 15 years or so. It's important to have a thermostat for the heat mat so it doesn't get too hot. Villa and ESU make reasonably priced ones.

I'm going to delete your other thread that says the same thing and move this thread to the correct place in the leopard gecko forum.
