Holding

Hi! My gecko is about 2 months old, and I'm currently trying to start holding him. The problem is, is I know these precious creatures can bite! Now I know I may have to man it up and take this bite head on when I put my hand in his cage to get him used to it, but I just can't motivate myself to do that when I know he's gonna bite me! (Because what he does is he gets close and starts wagging the end of his tail which means he's gonna strike!) Does anyone have any advice?

Reach around behind him and slide your hand under him (as opposed to grabbing him from above which can definitely trigger self defense aggression). Cover him as he rests in your hand with your other hand. Hold him over the cage for a little while in case one of you freaks out; you don't want to accidentally drop him on the floor and have him take off! If you're nervous about picking him up, use a soft cloth so there's no chance you'll get bitten.
