I can’t hold my gecko

So recently I got a beautiful 5 year old leopard gecko and I’ve been letting him get use to us terrarium. Well, it’s been some weeks and he seems comfortable. However, whenever I go to pick him up he flinches, tries to look scary and puts his tail up. Which is making me afraid to hold him or even just touch him. What do I do?

Keep putting your hand in the cage and talking to him when you feed him. See if he'll let you touch him. There are some geckos who just never want to be held. I have a male who hates to be held, but I do need to help him get his shed off sometimes. I've learned how to hold him so he doesn't bite me or hurt himself, but it's not fun for either of us. I got him as a young adult and have had him for about 5-6 years.
