Leo behavior??

So I've had my Leo for a while and he's never done this before. I was just tapping my arm and he looked at it very intently, so I brought my hand over still doing the motion to the tank, and he started following it and waving his tail above his head, but he wasn't trying to bite or anything??? He seemed curious!! What is this???

He felt threatened. The tail waving is an attempt to make a predator go for the tail so they can drop it and run away.

Huh... Interesting. Whats strange is that plenty of times before I've waved my fingers in front of the tank in a similar way and he's never had that kind of reaction.

Sometimes my geckos are totally cool when I pull their tubs out and pick them up with little warning (which I try not to do but I have slip ups when I'm in a hurry) and other times they freak out a bit and many of them wave their tails. I think it just depends if you manage to startle them or not.
