Female cresties may lay eggs even without a male. It's a strain on their physical resources. This is extremely rare, but occasionally a crestie egg is fertile and can produce a parthenogenetic offspring. This is the only difference between males and females that I can see.

Females are larger than males usually, weight wise.
On occasion you can get big males too.
