Tall vs Wide Terrariums

Thought of making a customised tank lately so as to keep 4 AFT in the same tank as currently have 2 each in 2 2x1.5x2 ft tanks.

Presume I have a variety of 'steps' along the way, would say a 3x2x2.5 ft be good enough for a 5-6 AFTs being housed under the same roof? Or geckos 'prefer distance over height'?

Can someone please share some insights as tried to find some materials but none was too informative. Thank you

Fat tail geckos are terrestrial, so the height isn't an issue. You can calculate floor square footage (or sq. "inch-age"). I keep 3 fat tails in a 20 gallon long which is 30"X12" or 360 sq. in. I find in general that fat tails move around less than leos so this works out well. The size tank you're considering would be fine for 5 fat tails, who seem to get along better in groups than leos. The height of the tank will be wasted, but it's no big deal. With leos, I've build a second level that they seem to enjoy but I can't imagine my fat tails climbing up there.
