Violent Male Leopard Gecko

Hey guys! I’m new here, and recently bought my first leopard gecko. My friend suggested that we should try to breed our geckos, so we put them together to see how they’d interact, we figured he’d bite at her and figured it was a normal dominance sign, but he bit and locked onto her tail and wouldn’t let go. We separated them, and the female had a bite mark on her tail. Is this normal mating behavior?

There's a wide range of gecko mating behavior but if a gecko's going to get cut up, it's a problem. Check and see if the female gecko is ovulating (pink spheres about the size of a pencil eraser in the mid-abdomen). With cats, the males aren't interested until the cat "goes into heat" (which is when she's ovulating). With geckos, the male is interested any time regardless of whether the female is ovulating. If she's not cooperating, he may get a bit rough. Good luck.
