They do work ok when they are new. The problem is they break and burn your gecko. If there is even a slight risk why take it?

My gecko spends most of her time sitting on top of her hide. The surface temps are fine, just under 90 and I made the hides out of tupperware and clean the tank at least once a week. It just seems to be where she is most comfortable so I don't think it is anything to worry about.

I'm guessing you mean for inside you gecko tank and not inside your cricket tank? I would recommend more of a pure calcium powder for inside the gecko tank. I do mix some vitamin powder in with the calcium and regularly see my gecko licking at it.

I would get another gauge. I had one of those and it was reading between 50 and 60 almost all the time. Put in an electronic one and it was reading 15 to 20 % lower.

I've also had good luck getting them lately at Dick's sporting goods in the fishing department. They seem to be the only ones in the area with a decent supply still. Just a tip for anyone searching for them.

The good news is I got the new thermometer last night and the humidity level on it is reading 15% below the cheap gauge I had. It has varied from 35% to 45% last night depending on if the AC and light is on. At least I don't have to worry about that anymore, and it once again goes to show how...

Thanks everyone! I plan to get the new thermometer this weekend and I'll recheck the humidity then. I'm wondering if the cheap gauge is just off as I have been running the AC pretty much all day and it hasn't gone down. I know Cleveland in the summer is humid, but it does seem high to me.
