Yep, like Dron said, your tank is probably too large for the baby. It's best to keep young cresteds (8 months or younger) in a smaller enclosure like a large-size Kritter Keeper. Sometimes the little ones have a hard time finding the food if the tank is too big.
Just read caresheets and make sure you have all the proper elements before you bring the gecko home. Make sure your viv has lots of plant cover; real or artificial doesn't matter, as long as there is plenty for the gecko to climb on and hide in. :)
Heh, another metalface here. I have quite a few pics with the septum peeking out from inside, too. ;)
Scuttles is a very cute boy! I like the picture of him relaxing on the cardboard tube; he looks like he's stretched out getting a suntan. :p
Like fuzzylogix said, Crested Gecko Diet in a bottle top is the way to go. They will readily accept crickets, but it's best not to feed crickets too often, or your geckos might start refusing their CGD in favor of the crickets. I only feed crickets once a week or so.
It could be they have a favorite spot, and you just don't see them being active at night, so they return to that spot in the morning. Do they have plenty of coverage, branches to climb on and hide spots?
