You are correct. They need to be at least room temperature with some food in the container. I have a batch of beetles that have been laying like crazy for the last 2 months. The first batch of mealies is just now getting to a size that they can be used.
I wouldnt suggest pouring alcohol into a snakes mouth. Sorry, but that can cause some serious damage. I always keep the waterless hand cleaner near by and if one latches on, I simply get some on my other hand and hold it near the snakes face. They usually let go pretty quickly with this method.
