Somewhere I promised someone photos of checking for fertile eggs. These pictures are terribly blurry, I was shooting in the dark, but I think they do the trick.
This shows the pen light I used and how I just hold it next to the egg I want to check. The egg covered in mold is most likely infertile, too. I wait until the egg dents or starts to smell, before I toss it. I'd hate to be wrong...
Now here is a fertile egg. If the picture was better, you could see the little red veins running inside the shell. But even the color is a nice pink.
And finally, this egg is most likely infertile. Its clear through, and a yellowish color. Admittedly I am new to this, but so far I have been 100% in calling the slugs. Bad eggs are obvious once you've seen them.
