Carpet in the cage?

The carpet I have in my leopard geckos cage can I throw it in the washer? With soap or without? I just swapped it out with new ones before and shook them out, I thought the soap could hurt them

When I used carpet, I would hand wash it with soap and water, put it on the spin cycle in the washing machine to get the excess water out and then hang it up in bathroom or porch until it dried. I would worry it would get shredded if you ran it through the whole washer cycle.
