cypress mulch

is cypress mulch a good alternative to perlite and vermiculite, in layboxes?
i am using just vermiculite this year its all i got. the peralite out of my stores for the year. i have seen the leo's lick vermiculite so i wanna use just cypress.
first i wanted to make sure no one has had any problems using cypress.

use some coco fiber or sphagnum moss the mulch seems awfully pokey
