i know at one time someone was trying to make small leopard geckos (i think through line breeding) but it didnt quite work. never heard to much about it.
In 2008 I hatched a dwarf leopard gecko.
It is a rarity and the result of a defect.
She has a skeletal high where the body and
the tail meet.
I would never breed her.
Not only could it be fatal to her but in
rare cases of other dwarf hatches .....
they had short term lives.
Non dwarf, but tiny geckos, IMO could
be fatal also.
That is one of the reasons most concerned
breeders set size limits.
( talk is 55 grams but IMO that is still
quite small for the laying female.)
Take care. Hj
I think actually breeding for giants in leos is like breeding for lawson's in dragons.. I don't think you could get much smaller in leos it would be unfavorable for their survival, as with bearded dragons.
Lawsons Dragons also known as P.henrylawsonii (also occasionally called dwarf dragons) are a different species than the type of dragon a person would buy from a store .
Some breeders are working with Inland Bearded Dragon aka P. vitticeps (the most common dragon species in the U.S.) to make them smaller, but I beleive (although I'm not sure) more are working with lines of German Giants to create larger dragons.
no these "dwarf leopard geckos" this person was trying to "make" maxed out at about 40 grams if i remember correctly. thing is the females would get egg bound and die. even though they were smaller they had normalish sized eggs.
