Excavator Clay?

I'm currently using paper towels for substrate, but would like a more natural look. I love the way excavator clay looks, but I'm bit worried about it causing impaction. Does anyone use Excavator Clay? Does it cause impaction?

Excavator clay dries, so as long as you pack it down properly there shouldn't be anything loose to ingest. I've never used it, but I like the idea.

They also have mats that look like sand, without all the loose parts now.
