"Fired up" What does it mean?

Ok, I get to be the newb all over again. I recently got my first Crested gecko and while doing research on them I kept seeing photos and people commenting saying that the gecko was either "fired up" or not "fired up" in the photo. I'm guessing it has to do with color... do they change color/brightness when mad or something?

What is "fired up" in the Cresty world?

Some geckos like a crested. get fired up at night or other occasions.
during they day they are blah. and pale.. at night they get bright and colorful

You can see how part of the body is fired and part isnt..

INfact ive never seen a photo like this one until i took it i think its pretty sweet

I love mis-fired photos! The gecks are so cool looking when they are half fired/un-fired.

Ohh ok... so it's like they turn darker to blend into the night better, perhaps?

Not just darker, if they have other colors on them they just get nice and enhanced, looks super neat.
