Went out for a smoke and this guy was hopping along my garage door. I took him in for a couple pics and quickly let him go.

Can anyone identify?

hmm im gunna say American toad

I agree. The easiest way to tell is by the position of the parotid glands, in A. americanus they are separate from the cranial crests, in A. fowleris they touch the crests, A. terrestris has two ridges in between the crests.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to look up a couple of those terms. We have a lot of gray tree frogs around here too, usually they are very small and jumpy so I just leave them alone.

The cranial crests are the ridges immediately behind the eyes, and the parotid glands are the two large bumps behind the crests. Parotid glands contain a high concentration of poison producing glands for defense against predators.
