Help With Heating Please!! & Good Set-up?

I finally got my fatties, a male 66% het patternless & female het patternless for $80 today. Set up pics are attatched



HEATING HELP!

Problem solved.

Set up:
Cool hide, warm hide, moist hide in the middle, mealworms on a dish with an apple slice, about 9 crickets (they won't eat yet), water dish, and paper towel in a 40 gal 20 long/20 high tank (got it for free).

I need some answers quick! Is it just the air temperature or should I be worried?

Where is your thermometer? If its on the side of the tank then that's fine. You only need to be concerned with the surface temp and 91 is fine.

The surface temp ranges from around 88 - 94 on the hot side, I brought home a laser thermometer. I have it on 91 ish, I'm not sure why some parts are getting a little hotter (one inch over will be 87, the next inch 91, the next inch 94, then back down.. weird?
