Leopard gecko dark skin?

My leopard gecko has been dark for almost as long as I got him, he used to be yellow now he's mostly dark colored, his tail is still showing orange. When i lift him he feels cold so I assume it's that, but the little guy refuses to go under his heating bulb. It's at 32°C underneath and the most he does is 30 seconds and he's on the move again. He eats well, very active otherwise and poops perfectly so I don't assume it's a big issue? I have a heating mat for night time and a piece of tile under the heatingr bulb incase he likes to lay on it after I turn the lights off.

Any idea's?

Do an experiment by keeping the heat mat (I assume you have a thermostat for it) on all the time and turning the heat bulb off and see if things are any different.
