Not only have always been fascinated by Reptiles and Amphibians but also people. I feel society hasl lost each other a little, here is your chance to let everyone know what you do, even if you don't do anything all day. We have a link with pics to show who you are but now it's time to let everyone know a little more about you. :)

I'm a Veterinary Technician. I work in a small animal practice which is primarily cats and dogs. We specialize in Pain Management and Physiotherapy, with some more off-key practices as well, like Acupuncture. I love my job, each day is different. Although we really don't see reptiles, I kind of like it that way, as I have a good sized collection at home and get to do something different at work. I do have two cats, but I don't own a dog, and working where I do I get to spend time with dogs without the drawbacks of actually owning one. :)

I am an industrial electrician and mechanic. I work on second shift from 3pm to 11pm. I am the only tech in the plant on second shift and have to keep the entire operation running a smooth as possible. Depending on the day I will work in the machine shop machining parts for the machines. Work in the maintenance shop fabricating guards or other sheet metal items, I arc weld steel and stainless, mig weld steel and aluminum, tig weld steel stainless and aluminum and gas weld any metal. Some days I am plumbing in new water, gas, and compressed air. All the machines are run by PLCs and I have to be able to trouble shoot and program all of the PLCs, AC and DC drives. I work on all of the wiring issues on the machines. I keep up with general building maintenance and take care of all of the machine breakdowns. I have traveled for the company to rebuild machines at different plants. And I have to be a certified stationary engineer because I take care of the two 350 horsepower boilers.

By the way I work in a Corrugated Paper plant, and I have been there for 9 years. We make cardboard boxes. I'm sure I forgot plenty of my responsibilities.

I was head of the Instrument and Electrical Department at U.S. Amines plant in Portsmouth, V.A. before starting my own electrical company. I have worked in industrial controls most of my electrical career. We used Yokogawa DCS and Allen Bradley PLC's, working in industrial controls was the best career path for me I loved it.

We use a lot of allen bradley, some of it pretty old stuff! some slc 100s and 150s! some Mitsubishi plcs. some auto max antiques. and the brand new mitsubishi machine is all Siemens drives! The machine is 10 months old and I my self have already replace three of those pieces of junk! There are a few General Electric plc still in the plant also!

I love my work. And when we where trashing 6 machines for the two brand new ones, I was able to save a few Allen Bradley micro500s for myself. One is controlling all of the lights and mister/fogger in the reptile room!

I'm a stay at home mom to the coolest 2 year old little boy ever. Mostly my life is play dates, happy meals, playgrounds, errands, field trips to parks and museums, playing with our animals etc. In my former life I was a staff scientist for an environmental engineering firm.

I became a stay at home mom/homemaker about 9 years ago. Before that I was a manager for GNC. My husband works at a chemical plant.

I'm in the veterinary technician club. My practice doesn't see reptiles or exotic animals either, which is a bummer. We do a lot of rescue work, and trap-spay/neuter-release surgeries for feral cats. We are an EXTREMELY fast-paced, high stress environment. Last Sunday, we saw 63 appointments between 3 doctors and 3 nurses. We are open 364 days a year (we get Christmas off). Oftentimes, I work 10-11 hour shifts, 5 or 6 days a week. I wish I could say I see something different every day, but lately it's been the same thing over and over again. I love my job and what I do, but not necessarily the practice i'm at.

I'm an Animal Behavior Specialist. I've done this for just about 17 years. I work strictly with dogs. I own my own business called Compatible Canine Companions near Erie Pa. I do a lot of work with rescues in the tri state (Oh, Pa, NY) area and donated over 400 hours last year to helping those rescues that pull from high kill shelters. We were able to save about 45 dogs that otherwise would have been destroyed because of behavioral issues the shelters said made them "unadoptable". I specialize in aggression disorders and multi dog households. I've studied wolves in the wild to get a better understanding of canine communication and how packs really work (as far as hierarchy goes and what not), and use a training program based on tweaking the natural instincts, their mental stages of development, and positive based reinforcement. I also have an online forum devoted to all things dog.

I also breed and raise show rabbits. My older son and I operate BKG Rabbits :) Netherland dwarfs in particular, but have also raised french lops and flemish giants. I supply our local mom and pop shop with some great pets in the off season which is nice as it provides a place for my culls insted of dog food buyers.

I'm the senior animal lab tech for the owl monkeys at an animal medical research facility. I've been working with 4 types of owl monkeys for 4yrs now. I did 8yrs with 3 types of squirrel monkeys before that. When the squirrels need a hand, I do fill in over there. We've got close to 400 owl monkeys and 600 squirrel monkeys. So I like to say I get paid to monkey around all day. (please do not smack me for using a very bad, but fun, pun *lol*) I do everything from cleaning cages to assisting in surgeries. Some light mechanical work is done if I think I know it enough.

The dog training is really interesting but so are the rabbits! Rabbits actually started my interest in/understanding of genetics. For my 7th grade science fair project I worked with an English Lop breeder who was trying to hybridize them with Rex rabbits to get Lops with Rex fur. It was the most fun I ever had with any school project! It didn't even place but I was still proud of my efforts to predict the genetic outcome of the babies. lol

I teach gymnastics and cheerleading in the after school program at an elementary school part time. I've been doing that for almost 10 years. Most of the time it's really fun but those little kids do wear me out sometimes!

I also make gold and silver jewelry and that's really my passion. I started collecting playground rocks when I was 4 and that's turned into and obsession with gemstones and diamonds over the years. I've only been metalsmithing for a about a year so it's fun to learn something new every day and very rewarding to have people all over the country order from me. It's like a dream come true!

I know a few people that are working on the velveteen lop project. They're coming along nicely but I don't think they have established the standard yet. Breeding rabbits is how I'm getting a better understanding of genetics as well. I work with netherlands and tried my hand at a new breed by mixing mini rex and netherlands to get a velveteen netherland (looks and size of a netherland but fur of a rex). It didn't work too well and wasn't widely received because ND's are already in the foundation stock of mini rex. I couldn't get the fur to work for me. So we gave up after much criticism.

Now we just breed for the perfect netherland :) The animal Behavior thing is really fun. I specialize in aggression disorders and multi dog households (getting them all to get along). Canine language is a HUGE interest to me. It's fascinating imo. Watching a group of dogs play is like reading a book for me. Seeing what each is saying to the other and knowing what it means. Just too cool.

I think your job sounds fun too. what do you think of the controversy brewing about cheerleading outfits becoming too sexy?

To me, a job is simply a means to make money and nothing more. As people i believe its how we live that defines us. Im a personal trainer although i do a few other odd jobs here and there.

I have worked in a few military museums as ww2 history is another hobby of mine and i collect war relics and have also worked in a masonry yard, just doing heavy lifting and cutting.

My passion in life is bodybuilding and did a few comps in the past and plan to compete again in the near future. I train 5 days a week, eat 8 meals a day, take supplements etc. Its hard work, takes allot of discipline, dedication and drive but its who i am.

Cheers-

Darren

Im a Cardiac Sonographer, I do ultrasounds of peoples hearts. It's a good job, but I have to say I miss my younger years of breeding hundreds of mice, rats and gerbils in my bedroom in my Moms house, and breeding parakeets (also out of my bedroom) :) (I had the best mom, she drew the line at ferrets.......not snakes, go figure?) :D. I got my first job at a pet store when I was 14 b/c of always being in there supplying them with my fancy mice :). I worked there from 14 to 17 (only b/c they went out of business). Then I worked as a vet. tech., but didnt know I'd get queezy during the surgery, so they put me at the front desk :(. But still worked there for a year or 2. Then I worked at a Bird Store :) A job I loved! I was there for about 6 years...but that was while I as going to school for my "career job" now I work with people? Dont know how THAT happened.....They're OK I guess. ;)

People........they're just NOT animals. (well some of them are I guess, but thankfully, I dont have to deal with too many of those :) )

So now I am getting back into breeding things (which has always interested me from the beginning) and Im going to start breeding Leopard Geckos and Fat Tails this coming season! :) Which Im so super excited about!

I'm probably more "old school" than most my age but I really do think the outfits for the younger girls are out of line. Not just in cheerleading but clothes in general. For high school squads I don't really care. I think it depends on how the individual squads and parents feel about it. But I don't think there's any reason for the 4-14 year old kids to be wearing midriff bearing shells with nothing underneath. Put makeup on them, fake ponytails, I don't care. I just can't see any reason for 6 year olds to be showing off their belly buttons. But then again, pageants where babies compete in bathing suit competitions kind of weird me out too! LOL

Tara, that's exactly what I say about working with kids! I don't have any of my own and have never wanted any but some how I ended up spending more time with kids than adults. :main_laugh:

At least we always have our zoos to come home to at the end of the day!

I work in a Middle School as a Teacher's Assistant.

These are fancy words to describe that I work with kids with disabilities. I am a one on one assistant. I facilitate the learning and safety of my student.

Honestly, it's the most rewarding job I've ever had. Also the most fun. I go shopping, swimming, random community trips, help with cooking class. And then there's the normal school stuff. Dealing with homework, etc.

I call this a job because if it paid better it would be my career. Unfortunately I get paid beans. BUT i have benefits, so I can't really complain too much.
