I know I've learned this before and it's probably been asked before but I have a question about ressecive genes. If I have an animal that is het for a certain trait, (let's say normal het tremper albino for simplicity's sake) if I breed this animal with a non het ressecive gene animal (tremper albino) what will the percenage be? 100% tremper? 50% normal 50%tremper?

I think the best way to explain would be with an example, so...

Normal 100% het Tremper x Normal, you'd get all Normals 50% het Tremper

Hope this helps. :main_yes:

Lets say the father is Normal het Tremper. Normal --->A-a<--- Albino.
The mother is a tremper albino. Albino --->a-a<--- Albino.

Now when DNA replicates it splits in half.

The DNA of the father split in half "A" and "a".
The DNA of the mothers split in half "a" and "a".

Now only "ONE" half of the DNA (from both mother and father) connect together.

So that means dad can pass a normal gene (A) or and albino gene (a).
Mom can pass a albino gene (a) or a albino gene (a). So no matter what half the mother passes on its always albino (this is why albino X normal gives 100% het albinos)

so you have a 50 50 chance of dad passing on a normal or an albino. Mom only passes albino.

So the babies will be. A-a (normal het Tremper albino) or a-a (Tremper albino).

It is much more complicated then that but that's as simple as i can make it out.

I could have just told you 50% normal het Tremper and 50% Tremper albinos. But i rather you know why then me just telling you.

To explain the above a little more for those that may not understand, the 50% is the chance that each baby hatched is to actually be 100% het Tremper. One would not know if they were 100% or not without proving them out.

Edit: My post was beat out by Josiah, and was meant to go under Mourice!! ;)
