Tail fattening up

Two weeks ago we added a Leo to our family for my son. We got Desmond from a local pet shop. Lady at the shop said to feed him a few pin head crickets every other day. Luckily I started reading here and learned that a juvie should eat every day and that gut loaded mealworms are good food. Now two weeks later there is a huge difference. His tail is starting to get fat and he has more energy. Here are some before and after shots. In the after his body is also extra pudge from just eating 9 gut loaded small mealworms.

Nice looking gecko and great change in just 2 weeks. Just FYI, I don't feed pinhead crickets to even my tiniest day geckos; I find them too small. I feed my hatchling leos mealworms, but if I was doing crickets I'd go right to 1/4".

It's been a few months and Desmond has turned into a beast. I can't believe what 3 months has done. He is a laid back cat and has taken to the family really well.

I will get some updated pics. I moved him to Dubia roaches and he loves them. I can put a few dusted roaches in his enclosure when he wakes up at night and he seems to have fun hunting them all night. I love that I can leave them in the enclosure and not worry about them biting him like crickets

Glad to hear the dubia are working out well. I much prefer them over crickets as well. Have you got a colony going at home or do you buy them in bulk

I started a colony that's just starting to take off. Lots of little babies. I also have a bearded dragon that feeds from the colony.

My colonies have been thinning out from the minimal feeding I do. I think I wasn't putting enough fresh veggies in there for moisture. Now that I put something in every other day, there's a population explosion!

I heat mine with a CHE and give them lots of fruit scraps plus chicken feed. Here are some updated pics of my Leo. I think he is a handsome normal.

Someone told me the Orange is a tangerine morph. Anyone know I assumed he was a pet store normal.

I'm not positive about tangerine or not. At a certain point it's really difficult to tell what is mixed in unless you have knowledge of what the parents were... like mixed breed dogs.

Since tangerine refers to the color only, if you see orange on it you can call it a tangerine. There are specific tangerine lines like tangerine tornado or blood and for those you need to know for a fact that they come from that line. He sure looks tangerine to me.
